I love shooting portraits. Whether it's posed or candid, as the photographer, you instinctively become more attentive to what's happening in front of you. Sometimes you direct and let the subject interpret, other times you simple sit back and wait for that moment. I try to find that balance between guiding the subject on what to do and letting them just become comfortable enough around me to show me who they are. Even if a person is "camera-shy", I find that after a few frames have been shot, the person eventually forgets about the camera altogether, even if it's right in front of their face. That's when I get ready to release the shutter in hopes of capturing that moment when everything is natural.
